Dion Phaneuf played in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League during the 2000-01 season for the SSAC Southgate Lions. As a defenceman, Dion garnered 15 goals, 50 assists for 65 points in 35 games. Dion went on to the WHL Red Deer Rebels under the direction of head coach Brent Sutter, who currently coaches Dion on the Calgary Flames of the NHL.
